I have been working with children and teens for more years than I can remember. I sometimes ask myself why I love it so much and the answer is really very simple. Children and teens are naturally open and curious, they are excited to learn how their mind works and know instinctively that anything is possible. They naturally inhabit the world of fantasy and possibility and are attuned to metaphor - one thing representing other things. I remember one of my first students telling me that as a Doctor she needed ways to connect quickly to her child patients and overcome their shyness and reticence to talk to a ‘grown-up’ about what was troubling them.
