Fear of Failure

Many children fear failure and you can see this in their reluctance to put their hand up in class, avoiding new things such as initiating conversations with other children they don’t know.

The first thing to think about is how you manage failure yourself because this is how children learn from you. If you are someone who would never admit to any failures in front of your children then it’s hard to know how they will know what to do themselves.

One of the NLP presuppositions is that there is no failure, only feedback. In other words what we’re doing is reframing a mistake as a learning. We are learning how to get it right, how to do it better next time.

This means being curious and when things go wrong, instead of feeling bad and downhearted, to think about what the learning is. The feedback sandwich is a great place to start.
