Many things have changed since the pandemic, home schooling, social distancing and all the changes children had to deal with that had such an impact on their lives. For those who already struggled with change and for those who were reliant on the support of their friendship group, and for those with low level anxiety already, everything just became so much worse. We as therapists had to work on zoom or work outside huddled up in blankets round the cheminiere so we had to adjust to working differently. One big thing that’s changed and with mixed results is that children as young as 8yrs old became aware of mental health and they talked openly with their friends about their anxiety. This led to them asking for help at an earlier stage than in the past and we as therapists were able to help them with techniques they could implement themselves to manage the emotions they were experiencing.
